We drove on Sumas Mountain FSR all the way to the parking lot at 720m with a 2WD sedan (Mazda 3) with winter tires. At first, there was maintenance on the FSR but after 10-15 minutes, the crew took a break to let us pass. There was snow (10-15 cm of medium soft snow) on the road as well as potholes, but no big water bars and we could make it by driving slowly.

In the evening, another 2WD sedan made it all the way to the viewpoint parking lot. It seems it is a well-maintained and busy road.

[From Ridgeline Overlanding] - Went up Friday morning. Pretty icy on the first steep stretch after gate. As I came back down that stretch there was an SUV in the ditch and I had to use ABS and “nerves of steel” to avoid him. I then pulled him out of the ditch and proceeded to slide a but towards the final curve. Moved to the oncoming shoulder to get away from the ice. The rest of the road was fine, but I’m in a Honda Ridgeline which is very well suited to those conditions, and have AT3 4S (winter rated) tires. The vehicle I pulled out was a 4WD Chevy Tracker with all seasons that were not designed for snow & ice.

Typical road conditions
Drove this road in the late spring to access Sumas Mountain. There were few rutted sections, but the road is otherwise easily driveable in any AWD type vehicle.
